In diesen scheinbar schon so weit zurückliegenden Tagen war es große Mode, sich über die Rakete und die auf sie gesetzten, an= geblich übertriebenen Hoffnungen lustig zu machen, ein Vorrecht, das sich nicht wenige anmaßten. Inzwischen ist die Rakete aber dank der im Kriege gemachttn Anstrengungen ganz gehörig herangewachsen, so daß eine ironische Beurteilung heute genau so unzeitgemäß ist wie einst der Glaube an Hexen und Dämonen. Ja, man gibt gegenwärtig für die Entwicklung von Raketengeschossen bereits so viel öffentliche Gelder aus, daß man damit ein Dutzend Reisen nach dem Mond finanzieren könnte, wären die zuständigen Stellen zu solch einem Experiment geneigt. Trotz weitverbreiteten Mißbrauchs als Waffe - in Vergangenheit, Gegenwart und Zukunft - stellt die Rakete nach wie vor das einzige uns bekannte Antriebsmittel dar, das auch im luftleeren Raum funktioniert und daher für die Erschließung des Weltalls unentbehrlich ist.
