Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Early Edition. EARLY PUBLICATION, 1745. A collection of Catholic Liturgy, Mass, and meditations. Written in Spanish and Latin. When translated into English, the title reads: "Office of Holy Week According to the Roman Missal and Breviary, which were published by order of His Holiness Pius V and were recognized by commission of His Holiness Clement VIII and Urban VIII". Nothing in the English language is written within this text. Hardcover. Bound in full burgundy leather. Covers are decorated in gilt tooled ornamentation. Hubbed spine bears three raised bands and is ornamented in gilt. All edges gilt, in which all edges bear gauffered design. Facsimile red and black title page, along with a facsimile of the frontispiece in a sepia tone are professionally tipped in on parchment paper. All other pages are original, and printed on laid paper. Text is in red and black. The red lettering is written in Spanish; the black lettering is written in Latin. Illustrated with beautiful religious engravings occasionally throughout in black and white. Also contains some ornamented initials, and large initials in red. A delicate, ephemeral paper doily (presumed to be hand-cut from the period), is laid in. 635 pp. SOME OF THE CONTENTS INCLUDE: "Domingo de Ramos, Passion Segun S. Mateo" (Palm Sunday, Passion According to S. Matthew); "Lunes de la Semana Santa, Missa" (Monday of Holy Week Mass); "Martes de la Semana Santa, Passion segun S. Marco", (Tuesday of Holy Week, Passion according to S. Mark); "Miercoles de la Semana Santa Missa", (Wednesday of Holy Week Mass); "Miercoles de la Semana Santa Passion segun S. Lucas", (Wednesday of Holy Week Passion according to St. Luke); "Jueves Santo, a Maytines", (Holy Thursday, Maytines); "Jueves Santo, a Laudes", (Holy Thursday, at Lauds); "Jueves Santo, a Tercia", (Holy Thursday, to Terce); "Jueves Santo, a Missa", (Holy Thursday, at Mass); "Sabado Santo Profecia quarta", (Holy Saturday Prophecy Wednesday); "Sabado Santo Bendicion de la Pila", (Holy Saturday Blessing of the Pile), "Meditaciones muy devotas de la passion de Christo", (Very devout meditations on the passion of Christ); and others. CONDITION: Shows overall wear and scars from age, yet the binding is tight and sound, and the majority of the text is bold, intact, and quite legible. Evidence of previous metal clasps that once could lock at the foredge are present by the impression of previous decorative aparatures with screw holes upon where they were affixed. Clasps are no longer present. At almost 300 years old, the title page and frontispiece are facsimiles. Several small worm holes are present on the cover, and a single continuous wormhole is borne from the pastedown to page 44. The last page, page 635, has been professionally repaired at the foot and edge. Pagination appears complete. Some age toning and discoloration throughout, but particularly within endpapers. Even so, these flaws contribute to the sacred character of this small relic, which holds a certain reverent specialty within its binding. Engravings are lovely. As this book fits comfortably and solidly in ones hand, it absolutely evokes a feeling of centuries-old longing and devotion. A special copy. Additional photographs available upon request. This copy will be delivered with "adult signature required". Full refund if not satisfied.
