They took the bird in and nursed it back to health, leading it to become part of the household, becoming very attached. This delightful tale is told with simplicity and sincerity, with charming illustrations throughout by Mervyn Peake.Previous owners ink inscription to the front endpaper, of Isobel P. Welski, and a later inscription of Shane McGowan. In the publisher's original cloth binding with gilt motif to the front cover, with the original, unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, excellent, with a touch of fading to the extremities and the odd handling mark. Previous owner's ink inscription to the front endpaper. Dust wrapper is smart, with light edge wear and the odd cosed tear, mainly to the head of the spine. Tape reinforcing the spine and the flyleaves to the reverse of the wrap.
