Hardcover. Condition: VG. Illustrated sheet music with oil theme. The lyrics of the song repeats "Ha, Ha. Oh! I've struck oil." Published by J. Church, Jr. Lithography by Ehrgott, Fordriger & Co. of Cincinnati. The humorous lithographic. Large quarto. Unbound sheets. 5,[1] pages. Sheet music including lithograph title page. A bit of dust soiling to title page. Illustrated sheet music with oil theme. The lyrics of the song repeats "Ha, Ha. Oh! I've struck oil." Published by J. Church, Jr. Lithography by Ehrgott, Fordriger & Co. of Cincinnati. The humorous lithographic view depicts a mad rush for oil with crowds of men jumping and falling over themselves in a chaotic scene. Many are carrying buckets, barrels, pots and teakettles to contain the oil supposedly gushing out as two oil derricks in the background complete the scene. Ehrgott, Forbriger & Co. was a pioneering lithographic firm founded in Cincinnati in 1856 by Peter E. Ehrgott and Adolphus F. Forbriger. Renowned for its prolific output of Civil War portraits, battle scenes, political cartoons, diplomas, and maps, the firm quickly became one of the most important lithographers in the Midwest. In 1868 it introduced the first steam-powered lithographic press west of New York, a technological milestone that expanded both speed and scale of production. Beyond its widely circulated war-related imagery, the firm also specialized in more elaborate commissions, notably highly decorative sheet music covers, which showcased its capacity for refined, artistic lithography. The partnership evolved over time becoming Ehrgott & Krebs in 1869 after Forbriger s death, and later the Krebs Lithographic Company in 1874 but its innovative role in popular and specialized American lithography of the mid-19th century remains significant.
