Der Musiktraktat des Cochlaeus erschien in zwei Fassungen. Die erste Fassung, mit dem Titel "Musica", erschien in Köln und Nürnberg ursprünglich anonym und 1507 in Köln mit Namensnennung. This book includes 4 treatises "De Musices elementis", "De Musica Gregoriana", "De octo tonis Meli" und "De Musica mensurali", each of them segmented in 10 numbered chapters. Im Gegensatz zur ersten Fassung ist vorliegende Bearbeitung als Elementarbuch für den vorbereitenden Musikunterricht an der Lateinschule St. Lorenz in Nürnberg gedacht.
