Unusual double-page frontis illustration (frontis and title page) of a "fadeaway" man, a style for which illustrator Coles Phillips was famous (though usually women subjects). Four additional black and white plates by Harold J. Cue. vi+ 377 pp. plus one page of ads at rear. The narrator of this outre novel is a doctor who, when called upon to treat a very ill little girl, finds that his patient is inflenced by a mysterious, unknown presence that lurks on the other side of the blue wall of her room. The book has alternately classified as a mystery, a supernatural, or a horror book. it has achieved something of a cult following and was reprinted in the 21st century in paperback.
