This book was compiled principally for the use of Police Officers and Members of the Detective Branch. The following is from the foreword: "Although the course of study given to investigating officers in many forces now includes instruction in scientific matters, this must for various reasons be of necessity limited, and the officer has hitherto had to rely on his intuition for the exploring of scientific fields. Any handbook that can concisely put before him the methods of scientific aid in criminal investigation should prove of the utmost value to him, both for tuition and reference. Superintendent else and Assistant Chief Constable Garrow have attempted this task ." The book is bound in the original blue cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine. The case of the book is in very good condition with shelf wear and some soiling to the boards. The spine is noticeably faded and the titling on the spine is worn and indistinct. There is lighter fading along the top and spine edges of both boards. The spine ends are bumped with a little damage to the cloth on the top front spine corner. The contents are tight and clean with light foxing to the endpapers and first and last few pages. There are traces of a removed sticker on the top corner of the front free endpaper but no inscription.
