Composta fra il 1448 e il 1449 la Vita del beato Giovanni Colombini di Feo Belcari viene stampata per la prima volta nel 1477 ed ebbe un crescente successo nei secoli a venire, sia come testo autonomo che come parte di mscellanee più ampie. Nel 1691 la terza edizione del Vocabolario dellersquo;Accademia della Crusca, sancisce l`affermazione dell`opera ammettendola fra i riferimenti per il volgare toscano e la lingua italiana.
