First edition hardback, no dustjacket; illustrated, 289 + [1] pages. The binding has some wear and small marks, the front hinge is weak and there are some cracks between the gathers. The endpaper has an owners' labels and a stamp. The prelims have be en carelessly opened with tears and some losses. There are some light marginal fingermarks in places in the text and to the plates.

The focus of the text is on the Saint, his life, and the Franciscan Order. Illustrated by Goff and the influence of the Franciscan legend on Italian art by J. Kerr-Lawson with reproductions after the old masters. Preface by author 1908. Book.

Nice copy of this 1905 printing dated on preface with 75 wonderful tissue guarded plates by Colonel Goff Book in decorated boards has softening to top/bottom of spine with a uniform fade to same, slight bumps to two tips, slight foxing mainly to prelim's/end papers not affecting text or plates. Small blind stamped address to top of ffep.No other marks or inscriptions.

This copy contains a loose advert for Books That Count by A & C Black. Interior has 75 full page colour illustrations also a general index to rear. Ex libris plate inside cover, otherwise clean interior with all pages tight in binding. Covers still bright, generally very clean with a few minor blemishes as shown in photos, spine cover very slightly faded.

Hinges pulled on front and back covers. Free front end paper and title page loose, as well as some color plates, but none missing. Beautifully written accompaniment to water color sketches relating to Tuscan architecture, painting and sculpture. Still a beautiful book even with its faults. Large book: Extra Postage required.

Robert Charles Goff, printmaker and painter known for his topographical scenes.Including seventy-five full page colour plates, collated and complete.Containing an ink inscription to the front free-endpaper, 'Marjorie & Edith, with love & best wishes, from H.N.R., Xmas 1912'. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, generally smart, with some shelf wear, and fading to the spine. A small amount of splitting to the cloth at the rear joint. Bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. Previous owner's ink inscription to the front free-endpaper. Internally, plate opposite page 60 is lifting to the head. Remaining binding is generally firm. Instances of light spotting to the pages, though many pages do remain bright and clean. Very Good. signed by author. book.
