Cover Art: Daily Telegraph Colour Library © Bill Brooks (illustrator). 2003 Edition. © 2002: A stand-alone novel by Brian Aldiss. 1st printing of 2003 edition:- Synopsis: Welcome to the near future: to the super-state of Europe forty years from now. It is a place where technology advances ever onwards, where humanitarian concerns slip ever backwards and where the answers to the big questions remain as elusive as they've always been. Brian Aldiss's wonderful novel takes us into a land bedevilled by the dual threat of war and global warming, where androids are a nuisance and are kept locked up in cupboards, and where a subversive group called the 'Insanatics' is sending out doleful messages to worry and provoke the population. And as life on Earth stumbles on, the crew of the spacecraft Roddenberry head ever closer to destination Jupiter:- Review(s): "Witty and satirical" - The Times / "Full of wisdom lacking from even the most percipient works of younger authors" - SFX / "Brian Aldiss is one of the most influential - and one of the best - SF writers Britain has ever produced" - Iain Banks / "Black, bitter and darkly unforgiving, this is classic Aldiss" - Guardian:- (original cost £6.99).

Hardcover. Condition: NF. No Jacket. Colour Art, Photos, Diagrams, Technical Drawings, Cut-Aways Etc (illustrator). 1st. Many books relating to the de Havilland Mosquito aircraft of the RAF in WWII have been written, but few, if any, have matched the brilliant merging of text and illustration as that achieved in this significent addtion to aircraft literature the 1939-45 conflict. The Mosquito had many claims to fame. It was unusual with the airfraft constructed of wood, becoming, colloquially known as the "Wooden Wonder." It was extremely versitile, used in a number of operational roles with destinction in all. The "Mossie" was designed as an unarmed light bomber and when intoduced to operations was an immediate success, which led to the adaptation of the basic airframe to a the large variety ofcombat duties. These are concisely, but comprehensively, recorded in Sweetman's text. However, pride of place must got to Watanabe's excellent artistic contribution. This includes two four sheet colour fold-outs which illustrate most of the Mosquito marks, cutaways and a number of side view profiles. The coloured inllustrations are complemented by a numerous photographs, earlier DH trend-setting designs, technical diagrams, side and four views and cut-aways with numered components. All the illustrations and the complete volume are in excellent condition and this book is an essential in any WWII aircraft collection. First edition of 1981, 52 pages, illustrations throughout. Colour art hard covers NF, endpapers are light brown wood-grain, with original dealer label lower paste-down corner, internally NF.

The township of Havelock North (south east of Hastings city) can trace its development to a plan drawn up in 1860 to establish a settlement based around 74 sections. After two releases of sections only one lot remained unsold by the end of 1862. Dwellings and commercial or community buildings were quickly constructed and by 1865 the Havelock School roll stood at 26 pupils. In 1874 the combined population of Havlock and nearbyTe Mata had grown to 228, four years later reaching 327, a figure including those on nearby farms. This excellent local history follows all stages of the development of Havelock North -- including debate of over the name when Havelock was also bestowed on a settlement in Marborough. Havelock North progressed to be an attractive village and locality with many fine homes, educational facilities and diversifield agricultural enterprises. Some of its infrustructure and buildings were destroyed or damaged in the 1931 Hawkes Bay earthquake. A town board was created in 1912, with borough status gained in 1952. Author Sydney Grant has diligently covered every aspect of the progress of Havelock North from pioneering settlement up to borough council, while his text is enhanced with numerous fine line drawings by Napier artist Patricia Dick, which provide a nostalgic reflection of Havelock North of the past. First edition of 1978, 136 pages including eight appendices and index, illustrated throughout with b/w phptos, line drawings, some art, plans (including three colour toned fold-outs), colour tone art end-papers, frontis portrait of General Sir Henry Havelock, hero of the Relief of Lucknow, from whom the settlement took its name. Blue hard covers with gilt front/spine titles are NF, as is the text block. Colour art DJ is VG+ with few tiny nicks to upper/lower edges.

The spectacular Pink and White terraces regarded as the eighth wonder of the world were destroyed when Mount Tarawera erupted in 1886. Their wonder and beauty had become an international tourist attraction. The violence of the eruption so changed the landscape and consequent searches for any remnant of the terraces was unsuccessful. Smothered by mud and volcanic ash people were killed and villages were obliterated. The author in his research has covered all aspects of this disaster.

Published to mark 50 years, from 1906, of Sutherland Shire on Sydney's Botany Bay, the actual publication date also commemorated 200 years since Captain Cook landed in the Bay in 1770 and 18 years later the First Fleet carrying convicts from Britain also used the Bay as first anchorage on arrival --- thus the shire history goes to the roots of colonisation. However the book deals mainly with events in the Sutherland Shire from its establishment in 1906 to the construction of Australia's first nuclear facility there in 1956. The shire's social, community, development, cultural and sporting personalities, two world wars and a depression are all covered in this refreshing local history. 155 pages, including several appendices, 4 colour art works, one colour photo, colour frontis, many b/w photos and chapter end sketches, map e/papers. Hardcover. Condition: NF. Dust Jacket Condition: VG+. Colour Art Portrait frontis, Colour Plate with Company Flag and Funnel Markings, B/Wphotos throughout, Map, Tables (illustrator). 1st. Today the beautifully maintained, blue hulled ships, with their distinctive star insignia to the funnel.of the Maersk line are a colourful addition to merchant shipping in ports throught the maritime world. Late in 1904 A P Moller purchased his first ship, a small British steamer the Ada, which was re-named Svendborg after her Danish port of registration and which was the also the initial company name. Subsequently, with a few exceptions, all company ships carried the Maersk suffix. By 1910 the fleet had grown to three ships but at the outbreak of WW! in 1914 it numbered 11 ships, 20 in 1916 but down to 12 by 1919. By 1930 the fleet stood at 40 ships and 45 when war broke out again in 1939 --- reduced to 21 by 1945. However, another 20 ships, including tankers, were operated by associated companies. Post WWII the fleet increased rapidly reaching 50 by 1950 and 88 by 1965, making Maersk one of the major international shipping companies, a position maintained today. The comany's story is told in a comprehensive manner by the author, encompassing its operational development and wider interests, including that of the extended Moller family from its founde, A P Moller. Although Denmark was among the countries occupied by Germany in WWII the Maersk ships served the Allied cause, incurring heavy losse to the fleet, repeating the experiences of WWI. The company was strong, surviving both world wars, the Great Depression and later difficult times for world shipping. "With Constant Care" was published as a private edition and was "not subject to public sale." This copy's former owner was a leader in New Zealand agriculture who was closely associated with the country's overseas trade. First edition of 1988, 325 pages including five appendices (one a comprehensive Fleet List) and index. Light blue (company colour) hard covers are NF with white spine titles and star decoration lower front corner, former owner's small label top right front pastedown, no inscriptions, text block also NF.
