Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. This soft cover plastic comb bound assumed 1991 first edition is tight and bright , free of names and writings. There is residue of a sticker on the front cover that is not creased or bent. There is a spot on the title page that has affected the inside of the front cover.… There is a faint spot on the front cover and one page inside that has been turned down. On the whole, the book is very good and filled with delicious recipes from Mobile.

Blue cloth rubbed with faint mottling, gilt stamping upon front board and spine remains bright. Some foxing to edges and endpapers; taped to front pastedown is card with three-line green ink inscription "Compliments… | Alabama Historical | Activities Committee;" bottom spine corners of pages 405-408 torn out but with no loss of text; interior pages are otherwise clean. Binding is firm. A good+ copy of a very uncommon art monograph. Book's primary "Portraits" section (pages 1-401) features approximately 800 b/w images (two per page) documenting original portraits located within Alabama with (when known) subject, biographical data, painter, format (i.e. oil on canvas, etc.), provenance, current ownership (at time of publication), etc. The primary criterion for inclusion was whether the painting was created prior to 1870 and did not require that the subject be a resident of the state nor an individual connected to its history although, of course, many are. With frontispiece, Preface, alphabetical list of "Artists in Alabama" (pages 401-405) and "Artists Not in Alabama" (pages 407-409), list of "Unillustrated Portraits" (pages 411-414), and concluding list of Patrons.
