Original red cloth, backstrip titled in gilt. Binding worn, though not too severely. Backstr…ip moderately faded, very little gilt remaining. St. Paul's School prize bookplate on front flyleaf, gilt coat-of-arms on front cover, and rubbed gilt bust on rear cover. No dust jacket. A number of photo illustrations and text pages faintly marked, the result of prolonged insertion of now-removed botanical specimens - nothing too disfiguring. Rear endpapers split along hinge. Edges of text-block toned. Contents generally clean and tight. FAIR, or excellent reading / working copy.
