Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. LESLIE S OFFICIAL HISTORY OF THE SPANISH-AMERICAN WAR 1899 HUGE FOLIO 1500 ILLUSTRATIONS. Although this is an amazing book for many reasons, I think book collectors will recognize that the most amazing part of it is its very good condition. These very large hard cover books (12 ½ x 17 inches, 612 pages) are typically unwieldy and usually put a great strain on handling them and preserving their bindings. I am pleased to offer: Leslie s Official History of the Spanish-American War , compiled and written from the Official Records at Washington, with the endorsement of the President, of the Secretary of War, and of the Commanding Officers of the Army and Navy. The book is bound in marbled paper boards with a quarter spine and corners in dark blue leather with gilt trim and gilt titles on the spine. As noted on the title page, the book is embellished with 1500 original illustrations , many by well-known artists, correspondents and photographers. Most of the illustrations are in b&w but the opening pages include some plates and maps in full color. Condition: This book is in very good condition. There has been plenty of wear to the leather components of this hard cover book including pealing to the surface and bumping to the corners and spine tips. The front gutter is starting to split top & bottom but less than an inch in both cases; the rear is intact. There is a good deal of edge wear to the papered boards but nothing very severe. Inside the book is unmarked and the pages and plates are generally clean with occasional and random specks of soiling and very light marginal toning (please see the photos). Both hinges are intact no doubt because they were reinforced as part of the binding process. It is this integrity of the binding which distinquishes this copy from any of the others I have seen. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.
