Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. This quarto magazine-style "newspaper" ("registered as a newspaper for transmission in the United Kingdom") measures 10-1/4 X 14-1/4 inches (26 X 36 cm. -- slightly larger than the bed of our scanner) on glossy, coated stock. Welcoming Sierra Leone into the Commonwealth; excavation of the 2,400-year-old temple of Hemithea, near Pazarlik; photos of "The smiling victor Dr. Fidel Castro the Prime Minister"; calcified bodies being uncovered at Pompeii; Lyndon Johnson watching John Kennedy sign a bill that makes Johnson chairman of the National Aeronautics and Space Council; John Glenn on the ground in Mercury spacecraft; "Beautiful Queen Farah of Iran." The Triumph Herald "1200" saloon, a boxy and unimpressive little two-door (though not much worse than the Austin A40 advertised in color inside the rear wrap) is named "Car of the Month" for its "attractive styling and eye appeal" (!) A full-page ad tries to convince us the beautiful people (including some dude wearing a MONOCLE) are drinking"Whisky and Canada Dry Ginger Ale" at the Cafe Royal, Regent Street, at 10:30 p.m. (like, in the same glass?), while a half-page airline ad urges travelers to fly via M*E*A Comet 4C to "Lebanon, The Land With Everything," including scantily clad showgirls in "Beirut, the playground of the Middle East." (How's that tourist trade coming along, Hamas, Hezbollah?) The de Haviiland Comet, with four de Havilland Ghost turbojet engines buried in the wing roots, world's first commercial jet airliner, was introduced in 1949 and withdrawn from service after a year, after suffering "catastrophic in-flight break-ups," which can spoil your whole day. Two of these were found to be caused by "structural failure resulting from metal fatigue in the airframe, a phenomenon not fully understood at the time." (The square windows proved to be unwise, as well. The redesigned Comet 4 debuted in 1958 and remained in commercial service until 1981.) Pages numbered 733 through 776, plus the glossy outer wraps. This single issue of the periodical now reduced from $20.

Bantam mass-market paperback 751, very-good-plus with a vertical reading crease 3/16this-inch in from the spine. States "Publisheer January 1950 / Second printing," though front wrap is faintly stamped "MAR 3 - 1954" -- arrival date at the newsstand? Perhaps reflective of the concern of the intellects of the time, numerous of these tales involve the destruction of earth (and mankind) by atomic radiation. All edges burgundy, and strangely enough, the text pages have not age-toned. 310 pp. followed by 2 pp. publisher's ads. Reduced from $15.

Seller: Cat's Curiosities, Pahrump, NV, U.S.A.
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. "An Introduction to the World's Greatest" ain't books but rather a boxed set of five, 12-inch, 33-1/3 rpm vinyl jazz LP records, World's Greatest Music Series WGM(S)-2A, "from the catalogue of Roulette Records Birdland Series," the vinyl very-good-plus (no real problems, but these records have been played), four of the five discs marked "Stereo," the box intact and "very good" with some edge rub and what's probably a sticker pull to bottom of rear panel. On the bright side, Charlie Parker and Miles Davis offer "Crazeology" and "Bird Feathers"; Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker bring us "School Days" and "Swing Low Sweet Cadillac"; Art Tatum offers "Dark Eyes"; the Stan Getz Quartet brings us "Hershey Bar"; we find Sonny Stitt with "Spinning" and "Hitsburg." Maynard Ferguson, Sarah Vaughan ("Stormy Weather") and Joe Williams each get a full disc to themselves, set of five now reduced from $12. For Maynard Ferguson fans we'll throw in OUR SECOND BOXED SET of two Roulette LPs, "The Maynard Ferguson Years," K-101, appear to be mono, very-good-plus vinyl in a "good" original 1965 box, including "Hip Twist," "Stella By Starlight," "Mambo La Mans" (sic), "The Party's Over," etc. -- that second boxed set being about a $4 value, the pair of boxed sets now reduced from $14.

Soft cover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. Cover credited to H.W. McCauley and J. Allen St. John / Interior B&W illustrations by J. Allen St. John (illustrator). 1st Edition. This vintage, large 8vo pulp magazine is intact, complete, "good-plus." would grade higher save for two small holes to top left of front wrap near the letter "f" -- they don't penetrate into the text block, but look almost as though someone contemplated punching holes for mounting or storage in a binder. Marvelous color cover illustration credited to BOTH H.W. McCauley and J. Allen St. John, which is unusual. This issue also includes Robert Leslie Bellem's "Robots Can't Lie" and William P. McGivern's "Doorway of Vanishing Men." Calling Burroughs' 36-page story "Goddess of Fire" a "novel" is a bit of a stretch -- in fact it's the second of four interlinking stories (following "Slaves of the Fish Men", preceding "The Living Dead" and "War on Venus" -- published sequentially in Fantastic Adventures 1941-42, later fixed up into the Carson Napier science fiction / fantasy novel "Escape on Venus" (1946.) Reduced from $36.
