Condition: GOOD. Reprint. The struggles of three sisters and their mother on a small ranch in Texas, while their father is away fighting in the Spanish American war. Grace MacGowan Cooke lived, with her sister at Upton Sinclair's Helicon Home Colony and after it burned down in 1907. they moved to the artists' colony at Carmel-by-the-Sea in California (joining such writers as Mary Austin, Jack London, George Sterling and more.) Most of her books were written in collaboration with her sister Alice, but this one was written with the Florida writer Anne McQueen. 252 pp plus 2 pp publisher's ads. Good in blue cloth in a fair only example of the fragile dust jacket (age toning to the pages, dj is splitting along the side of the spine and at the folds, chips to the top of the spine).
