First printing. Signed limited first edition of McCarthy's original 1976 teleplay, directed by documentarian Richard Pearce and broadcast on PBS as part of the VISIONS series to considerable acclaim. Pearce sought out McCarthy as screenwriter on the strength of his early novels, particularly the necrophiliac extravaganza CHILD OF GOD, "the oddest of a wonderfully odd lot" and a book which struck Pearce as "easily the most cinematic" of the three then published. Director and writer were well-matched: "[McCarthy] had never even seen, much less written a screenplay before, and [Pearce] had never directed a fiction film, only documentaries." The finished product starred Brad Dourif, who found McCarthy's company "hilarious," and delighted Tom Allen of the VILLAGE VOICE, who thought the film one of the year's best. 7.5'' x 5''. Original blind-stamped russet cloth with silver-stamped spine. In original tan cloth slipcase. Edition of 350 numbered and signed copies; this copy no. 41. Signed by McCarthy below limitation statement. 93, [1] pages. Slipcase with trace shelfwear. A couple of tiny specks of soil to front board, thin line of discoloration to front and rear pastedown at hinge (production error). Near fine in near fine slipcase.

Condition: Fine. First edition. Signed limited edition of this neo-Western thriller, one of McCarthy's most famous works and the basis for an Oscar-winning film. Known for his "brutal and spare" narratives, Cormac McCarthy has been called "one of the greatest living novelists" (Cowley, THE GUARDIAN). NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN is a major work of the McCarthy canon, exploring fate and futility in the aftermath of a drug deal gone wrong in rural west Texas. A MacArthur Fellow, a Pulitzer Prize-winner, and National Book Award-winner, McCarthy's reputation has been extended further with the success of the Coen brothers' Hollywood adaptation of NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, which won four Academy Awards including Best Picture. 8.75'' x 5.5''. Original quarter burgundy leather with marbled boards, gilt lettering to spine. Brown endpapers. 312 pages. Signed by McCarthy and numbered 42 (of 325) to colophon. In original burgundy cloth slipcase. A sharp copy.

Hardcover. Condition: New. No Jacket. 1st Edition, Special Edition. EXTRAORDINARILY SCARCE SIGNED! Sadly, the LAST books written by the author that was Cormac McCarthy. These two books are housed in a slipcover and BRAND NEW. Never even been unwrapped from the original Publisher s shrink wrap. Personally hand signed by Cormac McCarthy directly to the specially bound Publisher s page. Each individual book is signed. Something to cherish for years to come and even hand down as his books have seemingly only INCREASED in value over the years, certainly since his passing. The best-selling, Pulitzer Prize winning author of The Road returns with a two-volume masterpiece in an artfully designed box set. The Passenger is a fast-paced and sprawling novel while Stella Maris is a tightly controlled coda, told entirely in dialogue. Together they relate the thrilling story of a brother and sister, haunted by loss, pursued by conspiracy, and longing for a death they cannot reconcile with God. The Passenger 1980, PASS CHRISTIAN, MISSISSIPPI: It is three in the morning when Bobby Western, a salvage diver, zips the jacket of his wet suit and plunges from the boat deck into darkness. His dive light illuminates the sunken jet, nine bodies still buckled in their seats, hair floating, eyes devoid of speculation. Missing from the crash site are the pilot s flight bag, the plane s black box, and the tenth passenger. But how? A collateral witness to machinations that can only bring him harm, Western is shadowed in body and spirit by men with badges; by the ghost of his father, inventor of the bomb that melted glass and flesh in Hiroshima; and by his sister, the love and ruin of his soul. Stella Maris 1972, BLACK RIVER FALLS, WISCONSIN: Alicia Western is twenty years old when she arrives at a psychiatric facility with forty thousand dollars in a plastic bag. A doctoral candidate in mathematics at the University of Chicago, Alicia has been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, and she does not want to talk about her brother, Bobby. Instead, she contemplates the nature of madness, the human insistence on one common experience of the world; she surveys the intersection of physics and philosophy; and she introduces her cohorts, her chimeras, the hallucinations that only she can see. All the while, she grieves for Bobby, not quite dead, not quite hers. Signed by Author(s).

Hardcover. Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. First Edition/First Printing. This copy has been SIGNED by Cormac McCarthy on the publisher's tipped-in page. "This special edition of The Stonemason is limited to three hundred and fifty boxed copies. These books are NUMBERED and SIGNED by Cormac McCarthy." This being copy #80. In the preface to Vereen Bell's The Achievement of Cormac McCarthy (1988), it was noted that paperback editions of The Orchard Keeper (1982), Outer Dark (1984), Child of God (1984), and Blood Meridian (1986) were made available through the intelligent reclamation efforts of Daniel Halpern and the Ecco Press. After achieving "overnight" success (after 25 years of writing!) with the publication of All The Pretty Horses (1992), McCarthy returned to publish The Stonemason with Ecco. This is a play, written earlier in his career, set in Louisville, Kentucky in the 1970s which traces the relationships among four generations of a black family, and the keeping and tragic breaking of traditions from son to son.
