Previous owner's inscriptions to front free endpaper. Boards have light shelf-wear with corner bumping. Light tanning to spine and edges with crushing to spine ends. Light wear marks overall.

In pictorial boards with linen spine (boards are worn and heavily rubbed and a little chipped and indented at edges, rounded and scuffed on corners and spine ends, where the cloth is worn). Hinges cracked, some mild occasional spotting, and the 'belongs to' section has been filled in. A little loose but holding.

Presumed first edition, no publication date circa 1940's. No. 2 in a series of 6 Spikey books, 'charmingly illustrated in full colour.' Spikey is a small hedgehog off to school for the first time & helped with his letters & numbers by caterpillars & fish. Binding a little loose, corners a bit bumped, obviously a child has read this book (probably more than once) & left a few marks (see pictures). Dedication on front pastedown.

Small neat gift inscription to front pastedown o/w contents are clean and fresh. The wrapper is NOT price clipped, but is a little soiled and rubbed, it lacks 1½ inch portion from tail of spine and has a large closed tear to front cover near head of spine, not affecting text. Smaller closed tears and light creases to both front and rear covers. SCARCE in wrapper.

Some rubbing along the top edge and some minor knocking to the cloth spine and corners. Illustrations by the author are unmarked. Hinge is weakened but binding still holdingDust wrapper is unclipped at 4/- but has two areas of loss on the front and a closed tear at the bottom. The reverse also has a little loss and associated creasing and spine panel is worn. Despite all this now in protective cover, the book presents as attractive and it is extremely uncommon to find these books with dust wrappers.
