Hard Back. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. First Ace Printing. 319 Pages. After decades of silence, Robyn Crawford, close friend, collaborator, and confidante of Whitney Houston, shares her story. Whitney Houston is as big a superstar as the music business has ever known. She exploded on the scene in 1985 with her debut album and spent the next two decades dominating the charts and capturing the hearts of fans around the world. One person was there by her side through it all her best friend, Robyn Crawford. Since Whitney s death in 2012, Robyn has stayed out of the limelight and held the great joys, wild adventures, and hard truths of her life with Whitney close to her heart. Now, for the first time ever, Crawford opens up in her new memoir, A Song for You. With warmth, candor, and an impressive recall of detail, Robyn describes the two meeting as teenagers in the 1980s, and how their lives and friendship evolved as Whitney recorded her first album and Robyn pursued her promising Division I basketball career. Together during countless sold-out world tours, behind the scenes as hit after hit was recorded, through Whitney's marriage and the birth of her daughter, the two navigated often challenging families, great loves, and painful losses, always supporting each other with laughter and friendship. Deeply personal and heartfelt, A Song for You is the vital, honest, and previously untold story that provides an understanding of the complex life of Whitney Houston. Finally, the person who knew her best sets the record straight. Estreicher, Tiffany - Book Design (illustrator).…

Soft cover. Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. Fine unread condition black-and-white photographic softcover wraps. Includes Praise for My Father's Business; Author Dedication; Acknowledgments; Introduction; Index and About the Authors. Illustrated with a section of both black-and-white and color photographic plates. "This classic story told through the eyes of my friend Cal Jr. is instructive in almost every area of life. I simply could not put it down. Must-read!" - Dave Ramsey, author and radio show host. "Longtime Dollar General CEO Cal Turner, Jr., shares his extraordinary life as heir to the company founded by his father, Cal Turner, Sr., and his grandfather, a dirt farmer turned Depression-era entrepreneur. Cal's narrative is at its heart a father-son story, from his childhood in Scottsville, Kentucky, where business and family were one, to the triumph of reaching the Fortune 300 - at the cost of risking that very father-son relationship. Chronicling three generations of a successful family with very different leadership styles, Cal Jr. shows how his grandfather turned a third-grade education into an asset for success, how his driven father hatched the game-changing dollar price point strategy and why it worked, and how he found his own leadership style when he took his place at the helm. Cal's story provides a riveting look at the family love and drama behind Dollar General's spectacular rise, pays homage to the working-class people whose no-frills needs helped determine its rock-bottom prices, and shares the life and lessons of one of America's most compelling business leaders." - from the rear outer cover. Hardcover. Condition: As New. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. As new condition dark gray boards, black spine, and orange spine lettering contained in a fine condition non price-clipped color photographic dust jacket. Includes List of Other Books by John Feinstein; Author Dedication; Introduction; Epilogue; Acknowledgments and Index. Illustrated with a section of black-and-white photographic plates. "What he did for golf in the monumental bestseller A Good Walk Spoiled and for Indiana college basketball in A Season on the Brink, John Feinstein now does for basketball in the NCAA's most fiercely competitive conference - the ACC. The Atlantic Coast Conference has always produced champions. Spectacular players including Michael Jordan, Grant Hill, Christian Laettner, David Thompson, and Kenny Anderson got their start there; the conference is home to legendary coaches like North Carolina's Dean Smith and Duke's Mike Krzyzewski; and at least one ACC team has competed in the Final Four in fourteen of the last seventeen years. The league has won a total of seven national titles. In A March to Madness, John Feinstein follows all nine ACC teams through the unforgettable 1996-97 season and illuminates the almost inconceivable pressures on coaches and players in the conference. It was a year in which Dean Smith broke Adolph Rupp's all-time record for coaching victories, superstar Tim Duncan and coach Dave Odom attempted to lead Wake Forest to its first Final Four in thirty-five years, Mike Krzyzewski tried to fall in love with coaching again, and Carolina fought its way into another Final Four after a dismal start. Behind those stories, A March to Madness brings to light the hidden world of college basketball - the bitter rivalries between coaches, the toll of competition on marriages and careers, the difficulties coaches have in dealing with NBA-bound players, and much more. With unparalleled access to the ACC's coaches and players, John Feinstein takes us onto the courts, into the locker rooms, even into the coaches' homes, and paints a living portrait of how college basketball is coached and played at the highest level. This is an unforgettable and moving book, full of the unerring knowledge of what drives great coaches that makes John Feinstein the most popular sportswriter at work today." - from the inner front jacket flap. "Feinstein is a masterly storyteller." - Washington Post. "What Feinstein does better than anyone else is to make you understand the complex mix of psychology, group dynamics, and political pressures that make athletes tick." - Kircus Reviews. Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Near fine condition navy blue linen boards with gold spine lettering contained in a very good condition color photographic dust jacket. Includes Author Dedication; List of Other Books by Helen Exum; Preface; Introduction: Begin At Fountain Square; Acknowledgments and Index. Profusely illustrated with a section of both color and black-and-white photographic plates plus numerous additional black-and-white photographs interspersed throughout the volume, including a black-and-white photographic frontispiece. "For over a hundred years life in my town revolved around three meals a day. We fitted our lives around the family mealtime schedule. Then some things began to change. About half of all women now work outside the home. More people are into fitness, exercise and sporting events after work and get home late. There are more outside activities such as classes, clubs, cultural events. We often eat out.either fast food or in restaurants. Everyone you know is busy," says Helen Exum. "We now decide a day's activities and then fit our meals around it. More people are eating in ones and twos. This means we now plan food in a variety of ways. Sometimes we need something fast and easy.fired rice, an omelet, stir-fried beef and broccoli, or frozen pizza, thawed and heated. Sometimes we are on diets, either low-salt, low-sugar, or low fat. Other times we want something dramatic to serve the family or guests on the weekend - stuffed Cornish hen, homemade black bread, or an ultimate chocolate cheesecake with chocolate leaves." This book is about all these things, different ways of coping in the kitchen positively and liking it. Written in the chatty, relaxed way that made The Chattanooga Cookbook a best seller, this book includes people stories as well as recipes. They are either funny, informative, or inspiring. Plus this, there are over a hundred pages of pictures. "In other books, I've always wondered what the people look like, how they serve their food. This shows people with a wide variety of lifestyles. Many of them are young friends and family who have had a great influence on my cooking today," says the author. Helen Exum's Cookbook, with recipes from people in her city as well as from chefs and friends all over the world, is written in the same warm style as her first book, and is guaranteed to make you hungry as you find easy recipes to fit your lifestyle." - excerpt from the inner front and rear jacket flaps. Hardcover. Condition: As New. Dust Jacket Condition: As New. 1st Edition. As new condition blue boards with silver spine lettering contained in an as new condition non price-clipped color photographic dust jacket. Includes List of Other Books by Jeanine Pirro; Author Dedication; Acknowledgments and Notes. Illustrated with newspaper headlines. "Enough Is Enough. It's been nearly four years since President Trump took office, and during that time, the Left has not stopped lying. First, they told us that President Trump was guilty of colluding with Russia. Then they told us he was guilty of crimes in Ukraine, and they built an impeachment hoax around it. These were lies -- plain and simple. During his first four years in office, President Trump created the best economy in our nation's history. He brought the stock market to all-time highs and the unemployment rate to an all-time low. He restored America's place as a leader on the world stage, and he gave a voice to millions of people who'd been abandoned by the political system for years. Today, he promises to continue that record as he helps us recover from the pandemic. The radical Left has vowed to stop him at all costs. Calls for the destruction and toppling of historial statues, defunding police departments, occupying and overtaking public and private property, and demands for socialism shock our collective consciousness. As these anarchists destroy property, burn buildings, and loot stores, we pay for the destruction and damage. The men and women in blue who separate us from complete anarchy -- the police -- are vilified and demonized. In Don't Lie To Me, Judge Jeanine fights this cultural desecration with the truth and makes the case that with President Trump, we can work together to save America. It's time to stop lying." -- from the inner front jacket flap. Crawford, Edward A. (jacket design); Remini, Vincent (jacket photography) (illustrator).…

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. 313 pp. Solidly bound copy and dj with minimal external wear, crisp pages and clean text. "The first biography of this meteoric guitar hero. Emerging from the hotbed of Texas blues, Stevie Ray Vaughan developed his unique style early on, in competition with his older brother, Jimmy Vaughan, founder of the Fabulous Thunderbirds - a competition that shaped much of Stevie's Life. His death in a freak helicopter crash in 1990 silenced one of the great musical talents of our time." - from dust jacket. Synopsis: Publishers Weekly Austin-based journalists Patoski and Crawford pen a rousing account of Texas blues guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan, who died at age 35 in a 1990 helicopter crash. The Dallas-born Vaughan began playing electric guitar in imitation of older brother Jimmie, who founded the Fabulous Thunderbirds. Both brothers were fixtures of the 1960s and '70s Austin scene, which spawned such rock acts as ZZ Top and allowed Stevie Ray to form his own band, Double Trouble. Vaughan's biggest break was playing on David Bowie's 1983 Let's Dance album; when he brazenly rejected Bowie's offer to tour, he garnered music-industry notice. Later, as his career skyrocketed, Vaughan abused cocaine and whiskey. He underwent treatment in 1986, a process which sealed his friendship with guitarist and recovered heroin addict Eric Clapton. Afterward, Vaughan became a preachy proponent of AA's 12-step program; he is reverently portrayed here as an inspiration to troubled fans. Backed up by plenty of blues history, this enthusiastic tribute ably succeeds as a narrative, adopting the down-home colloquialisms of its subject. Photos not seen by PW. (May) Library Journal The authors provide a penetrating first biography of blues/rock guitar virtuoso Vaughn (1954-90). Through the use of extensive interviews, they succeed particularly well in describing Vaughan's childhood relationships with his abusive father and his older brother, who served as a role model. The authors chart Vaughan's initial interest in music, his emergence on the Texas music scene, his 1983 breakthrough, and his continued rise to superstardom until his untimely death in a helicopter crash. Writing in a breezy, engaging style, they offer an intimate look at the insecurities and abilities of Vaughan to explain his sometimes tortured, drug-dominated life and his fiery, powerful music. Highly recommended for general music collections.-- David Szatmary, Univ. of Washington, Seattle Annotation Now available in paperback, here is the bestselling biography of America's last guitar legend, Texas firebrand Stevie Ray Vaughan. Hailed the greatest guitarist since Hendrix, Vaughan emerged from the hotbed of Texas blues to develop a blistering, unforgettable style all his own. He lays out they've infiltrated every major institution - but HOW we can take them back. A must read." - Rush Limbaugh. "Leading America is a must read. Sean Spicer has seen firsthand how the left threatens our American values because of their stronghold on Hollywood, Big Tech, academia, and the media, and his book shows how President Trump will lead us through this battle victorious." - Rep. Steve Scalise. "Now more than ever we need President Trump leading America. This book makes the case. Read it and vote!" - Sarah Huckabee Sanders. "The Left has completely lost their minds. As a leading conservative voice, he continuously fights the liberal agenda and aggressively advocates for conservative principles and policies. In his second book, Spicer draws on his firsthand experiences to pull back the curtain on the tactics of the left within every major American institution, from the schoolhouse to the White House, from Big Tech to big government, from corporations to the media, and from the nation's capital to Hollywood. Spicer details his own Hollywood experience and goes behind the scenes of his experience as a contestant on season 28 of Dancing with the Stars. He won the hearts of voters who sent him all the way to the quarterfinal round - beating all odds. For the first time, Spicer details his time on the popular show. His surprise run on DWTS shows the power that voters have. In 2020, voters have another choice to make - this one for president. "Alan Sakowitz smelled a rat and kept his eyes on the rat while other investors focused on the cheese." -- Kendall Coffey, Esq., Former United States Attorney, Southern District of Florida. ".Sakowitz recognized fundamental flaws that should have been obvious to the lawyers, investors and politicians hovering around Rothstein. But they were in the same fix as the fellow in the old Woody Allen joke whose brother thought he was a chicken. He knew his brother was insane by he needed the eggs." - The Miami Herald, November 5, 2009, Fred Grimm, featured columnist. "Alan Sakowitz, a whistleblower of a Madoff-like Ponzi scheme orchestrated by Florida attorney Scott Rothstein, juxtaposes Rothstein's disregard for others with the countless, unsung acts of kindness of the members of his North Miami Beach community. Sakowitz highlighs the responsibility we have to be role models for our children and how that responsibility has a powerful effect on our own behaivior. I could not put this book down!" -- Jonathan Rosenblum, author and featured columnist, The Jerusalem Post. Crawford, AMy M. (jacket design) (illustrator). …

Hardcover. Condition: As New. Dust Jacket Condition: As New. 1st Edition. As new condition brown boards with gold spine lettering contained in an as new condition non price-clipped color photographic dust jacket. Includes List of Other Book(s) by Kris "Tanto" Paronto; Author Dedication; Army Values; Appendix: Give and Get Help; Acknowledgments; and About the Author. Signed, with a general sentiment, by the author with thick black Sharpie on the half title page. "When Kris Paronto began talking with civilians about his experiences fighting the terrorist attack on the US State Department Special Mission Compound in Benghazi, Libya, on September 11, 2012, he was surprised at how often people told him that the story of his extraordinary battle gave them courage to face tough times in their everyday lives. "The odds were stacked against us that night but the truth is that we refused to quit and we beat them with faith, teamwork, and the principles that were first instilled in me when I joined the Army. You can find them in the Ranger Creed and the Army Values," he says, "and you don't have to b a Special Operations soldier to use them." In The Patriot's Creed, Kris Paronto uses the seven core Army Values that all soldiers learn in Basic Combat Training, as well as the experiences of other servicemen and women and first responders, to explain how anyone can improve themselves and the world around them, and live a heroic life. The stakes are dramatic for the brave men and women who put their lives on the line to fight for America, and too many of their acts of courage and honor are unknown. The examples of their persistence and discipline will be inspiring to anyone facing seemingly insurmountable obstacles. Kris Paronto draws attention to values all readers can share and use, and to the honor, integrity, and courage of true patriots who have gone to great lengths to protect and serve. They embody the best of us and make Kris Paronto proud to be an American soldier." - from the inner front jacket flap. "Tanto's book is proof that Rangers lead the way both in and out of the military. This is a must-read for anyone who wants to improve their life." - Brandon Webb, former Navy SEAL, sniper and New York Times bestselling author of The Red Circle. "Kris 'Tanto' Paronto took his life of hard-earned experience, which ranges from long days as an aspiring Ranger to the cauldron of combat as a CIA contractor, and boiled it down into invaluable life and leadership principles. Whether you are in the boardroom or on the battlefield, this memoir will provide you a master class in how to succeed no matter how harrowing the situation may be." - Marty Skovlund, Jr., author of Violence of Action. "Kris Paronto epitomizes the courage, leadership, and discipline that selfless Americans who have fought for and defended freedom and liberty have exhibited from the founding of this nation to the present. Calling him my friend is gratifying." - David A. Clarke, Jr., sheriff of Milwaukee County, Wisconsin. Crawford, Edward A. (jacket design); Garrett, Scott (author photograph) (illustrator). A chapbook by an African American poet dedicated "to the nine Scottsboro boys with the hope that the sale of it might assure them a small part of the financial support necessary to rid them of the stain which has been spilled on their souls." They were all Black teenagers accused of raping two white women in 1931.The royalties from the first 1,000 copies of this chapbook sold were to be donated to their defense fund. The case would inform and influence authors as diverse as Langston Hughes, Allen Ginsberg, and Jean-Paul Sartre, and galvanize the American Left to begin considering African Americans in the South, whose plight they had previously largely ignored. A 1933 review in the Daily News Journal of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, described Carter's book as "a small volume of verse dealing with that famous Alabama inter-racial squabble.".…
