'Crollius recorded his knowledge, his experiments and his theoretical views in a book entitled Basilica Chymica. It became the standard scientific work of iatrochemistry, Johannes Hartmann, the first professor of iatrochemistry, used it as a practical textbook. In sharp contrast to Paracelcus' vagueness, Crolius describes in detail the individual preparations, their composition, and their application. At his death, iatrochemistry lost one of its great exponents, for he is credited with gaining academic recognition of the medicinal value of many chemicals previously rejected as remedies.' - DSB. pp. [1-2],3-469,[11];[1-2],204,[4];[1-2],3-104,[48]. A handful of woodcuts to text, plus a series of woodcut chemical symbols. Old Jesuit college stamp to free endpaper, and to margins of two text leaves (only) within the work, but otherwise a fresh, clean & near fine copy bound in contemporary, or early, Italian vellum, raised bands, title to spine. Old annotation to title. VG. [Poggendorff I, 498; Fergusson I, 187; DSB III, 471; STC (17th C. Italian) I, 289].
