Condition: Good. No Edition Remarks. 364 pages. No dust jacket. Blue cloth with gilt lettering. Black and white illustrations throughout. Rough-cut pages. Minor foxing and tanning to pages. More prominent to text block edges and free endpapers. Light cracking, creasing and staining to gutters but binding remains firm. Boards have minor corner bumping and edgewear with mild tanning and scuffing overall. Spine has heavier tanning with soft splitting, fraying and crushing to ends. Lettering remains bright and clear. Book has a slight forward lean.

Small piece of Backstrip missing from top of spine ( about 1") which removes most of the title. 3 very small closed tears down sides of spine.(see photo). Pages slightly age darkened an an occasional spot of foxing or fingermark. No inscriptions apart from the label. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.

With one hundred and ten original illustrations. A collection of work credited to Aesop, a Greek fabulist and storyteller recognised by his anthropomorphic animal characters and their moral commentary. Translated by Samuel Croxall, an Anglican churchman, writer and translator, noted for this translation, and Sir Roger L'Estrange, an English pamphleteer, author, courtier and press censor. With applications, morals, and more written by Reverend George Fyler Townsend, a British translator and cleric, and Laura Valentine, or Laura Belinda Charlotte Jewry, a Victorian English writer known for her children's literature. In the original green cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. Minor fading to the spine and the odd small mark to the boards. Minor loss to the cloth at the head and tail of the spine. Hinges starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with the odd handling mark. Light residue from the removal of a bookplate to the front pastedown. Good. book.
