A collection of work credited to Aesop, a Greek fabulist and storyteller recognised by his anthropomorphic animal characters and their moral commentary. Translated by Samuel Croxall, an Anglican churchman, writer and translator, noted for this translation, and Sir Roger L'Estrange, an English pamphleteer, author, courtier and press censor. With applications, morals, and more written by Reverend George Fyler Townsend, a British translator and cleric, and Laura Valentine, or Laura Belinda Charlotte Jewry, a Victorian English writer known for her children's literature. In the original green cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. Minor fading to the spine and the odd small mark to the boards. Minor loss to the cloth at the head and tail of the spine. Hinges starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with the odd handling mark. Light residue from the removal of a bookplate to the front pastedown. Good. book.
