Photos and drawings are interspersed with narrative history about the Cunard Line. Just an amazing collection of photos documenting the variety and extent of the Cunard floating inventory. "It has been stated often that the history of the Cunard Line can be read as the history of transatlantic steam navigation. To trace during the past 115 years the development in size, speed and comfort of the Atlantic liner from wooden paddle steamer to quardruple-screw, thousand foot liner, one need seek no further than the story of the Cunard Line. [The] maiden voyage departure [of Britannia, the first Cunard liner] from Liverpool on July 4th, 1840, setting in motion the first regular Atlantic steamship line, sprang from the foresight of Samuel Cunard, merchant and shipowner of Halifax, Nova Scotia." [from the first page of narrative].
