Rear hinge is broken and board is loosely attached. No spine title label on volume 1. Volume 2 front board is detached and right front end sheet is glued down. Leather spine label is worn and chipped. Moderate toning and foxing to contents. Not Ex-Lib. Very RARE South Carolina imprint. OCLC lists 4 copies. Born in Neshaminy, PA (near Philadelphia), McCalla apparently aided the American cause as a chaplain during the Revolution and was pro-Jefferson.

Bindings a little rubbed w/ small wear, spine ends a little worn, corners lightly bumed, small blank spine labels near heads, former owner's name stamps w/ remnants of bookplates on front pastedowns, top edges of both free endpapers trimmed, pages tanned w/ scattered foxing; Vol. I large former owner's name on front blank, tide marks at margins of first several pages, top corner of rear free endpaper torn off; Vol. II small ink scribbles at top of title page w/ an ink spot; still overall nice, binding sound, contents clean.
