First edition illustrated by De'Angeli, one of 100 copies signed by the illustrator and translator on the half-title, O'Meara adding "To Una" and dating his inscription "30.1.95". Only 75 copies were offered for sale, this likely one of the 25 presentation copies. The Voyage of Saint Brendan "written in Ireland perhaps as early…as the year 800, is one of the most famous and enduring stories of western Christendom" (jacket blurb). John O'Meara, an Irish academic and writer, first translated the text in 1976. The Irish-Italian collaboration between O'Meara and De'Angeli came about through their encounter at an exhibition by the Italian Cultural Institute on The Voyage of Saint Brendan. The ICI later supported the publication along with the Embassy of Italy to Ireland. Quarto. Illustrated throughout. Original black boards, spine lettered in silver. With dust jacket. Tiny scuff to front cover; light soiling to jacket, minor creases, not priced, as issued: a near-fine copy in a very good jacket.
