A publication of the Societe Archeologique et Historique de la Charente. This volume is about the ancient cemetery at Herpes, near Courbillac, in the Charente area (Cognac region) of France…. In 1886, Philippe Delamain, a merchant from Jarnac, discovered a cemetery from the Merovingian period. Found in the excavation were an outstanding collection of weapons, brooches, jewellery and vases dating from the time when the Franks had settled in Herpes (5th-7th centuries AD). Delamain's collection was dispersed soon after its discovery, but a significant proportion is in the British Museum. (from Wikipedia) This volume contains information about both the cemetery itself and about the items found there. The various essays were written by M. Le Baron J. De Baye, M. Maurice Prou, M. Deloche, and M. Philippe Delamain himself. Good. Original covers missing. Some age toning to text pages and some light foxing to some of the plates. Edges of text pages are brittle. Art museum ex-lib. with usual marks.
