Add to basketFirst edition, John Murray, 1967. A lovely copy of Murphy's third travel book , The Waiting Land, which vividly portrays the people of Nepal, their customs and civilisation. Following her celebrated debut Full Tilt in 1965 and Tibetan Foothold the following year, this can be seen as the completion of a trilogy of books recording her experiences living and travelling among the mountain tribes of India and Nepal at a time when their way of life was changing forever. Affectionately inscribed by the author For "D", whom she thanks for helping her while writing the book. This was probably her close friend Daphne to whom she wrote many letters while travelling in the 1960s. The inscription is signed Dervla and the author also signed the title page with her full name. The Waiting Land was reputedly written "by candlelight" while Murphy was staying with Daphne on the Aran Islands. Near fine. The dust wrapper is unclipped and near fine with just a hint of wear to the extremities.
