Notre-Dame-de-Losne était un prieuré dépendant de Cluny sis dans les dépendance de Saint-Jean-de-Losne (son temporel ne devient dépendant de l'abbaye Saint-Vivant de Vergy qu'en 1616 - cette abbaye étant elle-même une dépendance de Cluny). Sa fondation remonterait, selon Mabillon, au VIIe siècle et cet établissement était le siège d'un évêché.
