A humorous and clever social commentary novel that made quite a splash in it's day - it went into at least seven printings by this publisher's and garnered many approving reviews. This copy is the first edition, with 1904 on the title page. A great storm, strips Londoners of their clothes, forcing them to confront their social standing in the nude. Episodes highlight the hypocrisy and superficiality of the upper class while also showcasing the realities faced by the working class. Textblock has had expert sewing repair to one middle signature, and is now sound. Cover soiled, with "Boots Booklovers Library" stamp to front board. No other markings. Quite scarce, especially in first edition.
