First edition copy containing the entirety of The Old Curiosity Shop and Barnaby Rudge, published between 1840 - 1841, with in-text illustrations throughout and three frontispieces by "Phiz" (Hablot Knight Brown) and George Cattermole. This copy has been rebound into two volumes, which, for clarities sake, will be referred to as books. Volume I and part of Volume II were bound into Book I, with the remainder of Volume II and Volume III bound into Book II. The title page for Volume II is placed at the beginning of Book II. Book I: [iv], 306, pp. 1 - 228, Book II [viii],pp. 229 - 306, [iv] 426, page count marries with Eckel, pp. 69-70. Contains both the March 1841 Preface and the November 1841 Preface. Half leather binding over marbled boards, five raised bands, gilt decoration within compartments, black lables with gilt titles to spines. 26 x 18 cm. Spine edges worn with splits to leather, board corners scuffed, some foxing, interior pages mostly clean, bindings sound, good condition.
