Die Arbeiten Heartfields können schwerlich als l'Art pour l'Art, als Kunstwerke mißverstanden werden, die ihren Zweck in sich selbst und darüber hinaus in ihrem Wert am Markte finden. Heartfield hatte sein technisches Können in den Dienst der Arbeiterbewegung gestellt. Seine Arbeiten waren folglich nie Kunstwerke im obigen Sinn, sondern Kampfmittel für die Emanzipation, Kampfmittel gegen den Faschismus und gegen die Ausbeutung des arbeitenden Menschen. Ihr ästhetischer Wert liegt somit nicht in einer nebulösen Ideologie abstrakter Schönheit, sondern in der Klarheit mit der via Bild die Gefahren bestirnter gesellschaftlicher und politischer Strukturen aufgezeigt werden. Ihr Maßstab muß die Wirkung im Hinblick auf die angestrebte qualitative gesellschaftliche Veränderung sein, die Wirkung also, die Bewußtmachung einschließt. Von hier weisen die Linien auf das Selbst-verständnis einer Institution, die mit den Arbeiten Heartfields ihr erstes Projekt vorstellt. Sprache: Deutsch Gewicht in Gramm: 550.
