It serves as an encyclopedia, encompassing a wide array of animals, birds, fishes, insects, and plants. This work was intended as a supplement to the 'Shijing,' a collection of Chinese poetry attributed to Confucius (551-479 BC). Originally published in China in the 1770s by Xu Ding (active 1751-1776), this book features a comprehensive compilation of 255 species, complete with images and references to medical knowledge and mentions in Classical texts. The illustrations found in this book are identical to those in the original Chinese edition. The text is in Chinese, with katakana inscriptions. 9 volumes in two books, complete set.
