Hardcover. Condition: Used: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Fair. Good overall; DJ is price clipped and has tears at the edges. There are some light pencil lines in the margins and some of the corners are turned in. Also, this was published when books arrived uncut and the buyer had so cut every other page, so a couple of the corners are cut improperly. Otherwise the book has been kept high and dry and the binding is tight. A hairline crack upon the back hinge but gauze is holding strong. 1 lb 8 oz; 6x9".

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good+. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good dj. Illustrated by (dj) "E.F." (illustrator). First American Edition. [light wear to spine ends, a little dust-darkening to top of text block; jacket browned at spine, some light spotting on rear panel, front panel colorful and attractive]. This French novel "deals in a unique and arresting way with the life of an English girl in an English seaport town" -- specifically Plymouth, depicted (it sez here) with "a realistic intensity and penetration which is almost Russian in quality." (It's also stated that the author "lived for some time in Plymouth.") Savignon (1878-1947) had received the Prix Goncourt way back in 1912 for his novel "Les filles de la pluie," and was later named a Chevalier of the Légion d'Honneur; relatively little of his ouevre seems to have been published in English translation.
