Etching on cream wove paper, 6 x 8 1/4 inches (152 x 210 mm); sheet 11 3/4 x 15 1/2 inches (298 x 394 mm), the full sheet. In good condition with minor uniform toning. The structure represents Charles Borromeo, a Catholic saint and former archbishop of Milan. According to sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi "The statue of St. Charles Borromeo is the first known example of a statue of repoussé copper, worked with the hammer inside and outside, and freely supported on iron beams". Today, the complex is maintained by Milan's Biblioteca Ambrosiana.
