Poet and publisher Gerd Stern (1928-2025), after breaking up with Maya Angelou, met and married Ann London, and the two formed a poetry group called "The Seven Stray Cats." The Cats, all of them Bay Area figures with ties to Allen Ginsberg, William Burroughs and others, included Stern, Michael Grieg, Laura Uronovitz, Robert Stock, Jack Gilbert, Carol Christopher Drake, and Jean McLean, with London being the eighth cat with work present in the Berkeley and Sausalito programs.
