Long considered one of the primary categories of Western painting, landscape has traditionally been dialectically structured by the production of either realistic or idealized representations of the natural world. The artists in Landscape Confection work in the realm of imaginary landscape. Many of the paintings derive from the unconscious space of dreams, some borrow from the discipline of topography, and still others reside at the boundary between landscape and abstraction. Most of the pictures have a high degree of whimsy and call to mind the f'êtes galantes of Watteau, redolent as they are with bodily and visual pleasure. In German and Englisch --- Erst auf den zweiten Blick erkennt man, dass ihre Bilder nicht gemalt, sondern genäht sind. Rowena Dring verwendet selbst gefertigte Fotografien, die sie auf ihren vielen Reisen macht, und bearbeitet diese mit diversen digitalen Filtern, um die Motive zu vereinfachen, gleichzeitig zu präzisieren und sie somit plakativ auf Konturen und Flächen zu reduzieren. Diese Überbleibsel des ursprünglich detailreichen Fotos näht die Künstlerin aus Baumwolleinzelfragmenten zusammen. Dadurch ergibt sich in der Fernwirkung immer noch ein reichhaltiges Ganzes, aber aus der Nähe betrachtet zerfallen die Bilder in grobflächige Abstraktionen, die lediglich Erinnerungen an allgemeine Bilder wachrufen. Rowena Dring hinterfragt die Wahrnehmung in Bezug auf Raum und Zeit. Im eigentlichen Sinn ist die Künstlerin eine Bildromantikerin, die nach den Momenten sucht, an denen die rationale Verfügbarkeit über das Bild erlischt. Diese Offenheit der Bildsprache gelingt Rowena Dring vor allem deswegen, weil jede ihrer bildnerischen Anordnungen wohl überlegt austariert sind. Sprache: Deutsch Gewicht in Gramm: 300.
