Gr. 8° Leinen. Condition: Gut. Illustrierter Leineneinband, 26 x 18 cm, altersübliche Gebrauchsspuren, leicht berieben, Seiten altersüblich gebräunt, durchweg sauber, insges. gut und intakt erhalten. Der Zoologe, Neurohistologe, Polarforscher, Ozeanograph, Diplomat und Friedensnobelpreisträger Nansen durchquerte 1888 als Erster Grönland über das Inlandeis und stellte während seiner Nordpolarexpedition (18931896) gemeinsam mit Fredrik Hjalmar Johansen am 8. April 1895 mit einer geographischen Breite von 86° 13,6 N einen neuen Rekord in der bis dahin größten erreichten Annäherung an den geographischen Nordpol auf. Er revolutionierte die Techniken des polaren Reisens und beeinflusste damit alle nachfolgenden Expeditionen in Arktis und Antarktis. A very attractive 1902 edition of this scarce volume in smart condition, with beautiful front board, decorative pastedowns, and historic plates. In German with elegant, uncluttered typsetting. Externally attractive in handsome red cloth binding, with decorative text and illustration. Light rubbing to boards, moderate rubbing to head and tail of spine. Hinges slightly strained but firm. Internally firmly bound with pages worn at edges but generally bright and clean, notwithstanding marginal browning. Several small tears to front plate (including one open), and torn corner to further plate. Very Good. book.
