Based on research by W Norman Hutchinson, this history of the North Shore, Auckland, area of Takapuna marked 60 years of local government there from 1913 to 1973, when amalgamation to nearby councils was imminent. The book records in text and illustration important and interesting events in the district from pre-European Maori days to the early settlers, through to modern times, as well as industrial, commercial, civic, transport and civic affairs. Illustrated throughout with some colour and many b/w photos and art, also maps, sketches, cartoons, diagrams. Blue hard covers with gilt front decoration and titles VG, with lightly sunned spine, text block excellent. Colour art DJ is VG+.
