The often damaged and worn book was recently restored and professionally rebound and is now a tight and firm version for generations to come. Very good condition with only minor signs of external wear. Name of pre-owner on endpaper in pen and pencil. A few marks on endpaper and content page. Otherwise in very good condition. [The Wonder Book Series]. Stunning, underrated children's book with a selection of classical and lesser known children's stories. The majority of stories and fairy tales in this book were by women writers of the time and also the illustrations mainly selected from women illustrators. Very sad and racist poems like "Black & White" by Dorothy Dickinson or Sambo the Golliwog by Beryl Faulkner are included as well as a multitude of wonderful short stories by today lesser known women authors of teh early 20th century. With some beautiful illustrations touching on the Peter Pan Theme, Red Riding Hood, Animals and Children, Gnomes, Dwarfs, Fairies or stories like "The Elf, The Magician and the Nightingale" by Madge Williams.
