First edition of Dylan's first book. Octavo, original cloth. Signed by Bob Dylan on the half-title page. Fine in a near fine dust jacket with some light wear to the extremities. Housed in a custom half morocco clamshell box.ÂRare and desirable signed by Dylan. Written in 1966, Tarantula is a collection of poems and prose that evokes the turbulence of the times in which it was written, and gives a unique insight into Dylan's creative evolution. It captures Bob Dylan's preoccupations at a crucial juncture in his artistic development, showcasing the imagination of a folk poet laureate who was able to combine the humanity and compassion of his country roots with the playful surrealism of modern art. Angry, funny, and strange, the poems and prose in this collection reflect the concerns found in Dylan's most seminal music: a sense of protest, a verbal playfulness and spontaneity, and a belief in the artistic legitimacy of chronicling everyday life and eccentricity on the street.

First edition of this collection of songs from the 1960's folk music scene. Quarto, original cloth, with 112 pages with photographs. Signed by Bob Dylan in a contemporary hand on the front free endpaper. Features photos and tabulature of music by Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, Jack Elliott, The Greenbriar Boys, The New Lost City Ramblers and Peggy Seeger. Introduction by Pete Seeger. Notes by Earl Robinson. Rare and desirable signed by Dylan. Bob Dylan often performed, and sometimes toured, with Joan Baez, starting when she was a singer of mostly traditional songs. As Baez adopted some of Dylan's songs into her repertoire and even introduced Dylan to her avid audiences, a large following on the folk circuit, it helped the young songwriter to gain initial recognition. By the time Dylan recorded his first LP (1962) he had developed a style reminiscent of Woody Guthrie. He began to write songs that captured the "progressive" mood on the college campuses and in the coffee houses.

Soft cover. Condition: Near Fine. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Madison, WI. No date or publisher; circa 1966-71. Presumably this edition was published following the avilability of the galleys and before the trade edition of 1971. NEAR FINE. A clean copy in illustrated wraps that are mustard in color. Uncommon version. In 1964 Dylan signed with Macmillan to write a book called Tarantula. It's about spiders,' he said. Galley proofs were ready in 1966, but publication was suspended after Dylan's motorcycle crash later in the year. Numerous bootlegged editions appeared before Macmillan eventually published the novel in 1971. From the fornt inside cover of this pirated version: "The copy we received to work from was xeroxed and, according to the grapevine, was taken from the printer s galleys. We have tried to keep as close to that as possible. This edition has the same number of pages. Each line has the same words in it. The graphics were of our own choosing. Through photography and a series of short essays, Kramer reflects on time spent with the folk singer from the summer of 1964 to the end of 1965. Pictures include the recording sessions for Bringing it Back Home, and the inflammatory Dylan-goes-electric performance at the Newport Folk Festival. Kramer is known for shooting remarkably intimate portraits of the musician, including the album covers of Bringing It All Back Home and Highway 61 Revisited. He writes "the best way to photograph Dylan seemed to be to anticipate the pictures and not to force them. Pictures are always occurring and coming together in the natural environment and course of events. When pictures are made this way, they are often better than the posed variety. Certainly they are more truthful." Large octavo. Photographic illustrations throughout. Original black cloth, spine lettered in silver. With dust jacket.
