Hardcover. Condition: Fair. [Interesting provenance, volume 1 has a gift inscription by Edwards W. Fiske to Henry Evelyn Pierrepont, Esq. on front end page.] 2 volume set. v.2 is rebound in black buckram cloth. Hardcover. Library stamps and markings. Tears to spine ends of v.1. Some foxing. This is an oversized or heavy book, which requires additional postage for international delivery outside the US. Edwards W. Fiske was an American businessman and politician from New York. In 1847, Fiske was elected to the New York State Assembly, representing the Kings County 2nd District. He served in the Assembly in 1848, 1849, and 1850. He was elected as a Whig, but he joined the Republican Party when it was organized. He initially supported William H. Seward when he ran for President in 1860, but he served as a Presidential elector for Abraham Lincoln and Hannibal Hamlin in the 1860 United States presidential election. The Documentary History of the State of New York is a foundational, multi-volume collection of primary source documents (letters, records, official papers) from New York's colonial and early statehood periods, compiled in the mid-19th century, offering invaluable historical insight into its Dutch, English, and American formation.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. DOCUMENTARY HISTORY OF NEW YORK BY E.B. O CALLAGHAN 4 LARGE VOLUMES VERY GOOD CONDITION. I have seen some and own other copies of what should be the cornerstone of any collection of books about the history of New York State. I am downsizing and will not be sparing any of my treasures including this one: The Documentary History of the State of New York by E.B. O Callaghan in four volumes. These four large hard cover volumes (6 ½ x 9 ĵ inches- 787/1211/1215/1144 pages respectively) was printed by Weed Parsons & Co. of Albany dated 1849/1849/1850/1851 respectively. They are bound in brown blind-stamped cloth boards with gilt titles on the spine. I have included some photos of the Tables of Content for your further information but only a few as they are so many pages of contents. Each volume includes 10-14 tipped-in illustrations, and I have also added some photos of the Lists of Illustrations or the Instruction to the Binders/Printers about where to put in the illustrations in the text. Please note that I have carefully verified that all of the illustrations are present, checking them one by one. Condition: This set of four large hard cover volumes are in very good condition better condition than any I have ever seen or better than any of those few currently listed online (only 3 such sets seen online). The hard covers are in generally very good condition with some faint edge wear and some blemished to the finish. They are faintly bumped. There is a shelf number from a library on the spine, but this is the only library marking I found. Inside the books are unmarked and the pages are generally clean although there are many pages with foxing, typically those near to or including the illustrations. Some of the many fold-out maps or illustrations are mis-folded and some have tears to the seam where they attach to the book, but none are very severely damaged. All the hinges are intact, and the bindings are tight and sound in all four books.
