"This collection of newspaper articles and B.B.C. talks contains many helpful hints to the motorist, together with a fair proportion of matter of interest only to the historian. It seems rather late in the day, for example, to publish a talk broadcast in 1924 or a speech on the Road Traffic Bill made in 1929. Possibly the author believes that his views mature with age, for an article reprinted in this book which appeared in a daily newspaper on the morning of the Motor Show of 1929 is stated in a footnote to have been written in 1926. One of the more up--to-date B.B.C talks, describing the Motor Show of 1931, has a footnote saying that it 'was given at a time of national emergency and crisis, when a Socialist Government had been in power for two years.' Political propaganda seems rather out of place in a book of this sort, and is apt to make the reader suspect a patronising attitude even in the pages of genuinely useful advice which this book contains" (Police Journal review).
