Condition: Very Good. The Eastern Defense Command was first established in March 1941 as one of four regional military organizations in charge of American territorial protection in case of war. Japan's surprise attack on Pearl Harbor jumpstarted the planning and execution, which used forces from the First Army as mobile reserves. This ephemeral broadsheet was printed in mid-May, 1942 and presents Public Proclamation Number 1 as issued by Lieutenant General Hugh A. Drum. The text outlines the source of Drum's authority, the physical boundaries of the Eastern Defense Command, and the expected responsibilities of those who live within. A small map in the lower left presents the four different Corps areas along the Atlantic Coast. The poster is uncommon, with WorldCat noting copies in only two libraries - the University of Chicago and Pennsylvania State. A further example has been identified in the State Archives of North Carolina. OCLC# 34234048 Sheet Width (in) 19 Sheet Height (in) 25 Condition Description Moderate offsetting from the title block visible along the bottom of the page. Heavy wear in the corners, including numerous pinholes, creasing, discoloration, and minor paper loss in the lower left. Light creasing along old fold lines, mostly now flattened. About good condition overall.
