Staatsbeamte Karl Graf Chotek von Chotkowa und Wognin (1783-1868) übernahm 1826 die Verwaltung des Königreiches Böhmen, die er als Oberstburggraf bis 1843 innehatte. - Ebert galt damals als der größ…te deutsch-böhmische Dichter. 1825 trat er seinen Dienst als Bibliothekar und Archivar seines Paten, des Fürsten Egon von Fürstenberg, in Donaueschingen an. Er lernte in Süddeutschland und auf Reisen die Hauptvertreter der Spätromantik kennen. 1832 kehrte er nach Prag zurück und arbeitete fortan in der Verwaltung der böhmischen Güter des Fürsten. 1829 erschien sein berühmtes Epos "Wlasta". 1857 legte er sein Amt nieder. 1872 wurde Ebert in den Ritterstand erhoben. "Seine Stärke lag weniger im Drama als in der Balladen- und Romanzendichtung in den Bahnen Uhlands und Schwabs, die er um deutsche und tschech. Stoffe seiner Heimat bereicherte" (NDB IV, S. 257). ".
