Soft cover. Condition: As New. 1st Edition. First Fantagraphics Books edition: November 2004. Bright, clean & tight copy, unread, in AS NEW condition. "In this volume: The rarest of the Krazy Kat 'Sundays,' almost all unseen by human eyes for three-score and ten years---special features include contemporary newspaper articles, a…n early strip co-starring the Dingbat Family and Krazy, some 1916 'Baron Beans,' and a never-before-seen, complete 10-episode daily romance panel by Herriman."[] "KRAZY & IGNATZ 1933-1934 is a hot-baked brickbat of a volume, adance with nearly two full years of the Sunday Krazy Kat (Herriman did not use color until 1935), snug between multiple pages of Herriman extras, not the least of which include an introduction by Blackbeard, a new 'DeBaffler' page, and a stunning layout front and back and throughout by the inimitable Chris Ware!" [publishers copy] "In "Krazy Kat' the poetry originated from a certain lyrical stubbornness in the author, who repeated his tale as infinitum, varying it always but sticking to its theme. It was thanks only to this that the mouse's arrogance, the dog's unrewarded compassion, and the cat's desperate love could arrive at what many critics felt was a genuine state of poetry, an uninterrupted elegy based on sorrowing innocence."--Umberto Eco. Pristine paperback w/brilliant corners & crisp edges, a square & tight binding w/no creases in spine.

Soft cover. Condition: As New. 1st Edition. First Fantagraphics Books edition: April 2004. Bright, clean & tight copy, unread, in AS NEW condition. "The fourth volume of chronological reprintings of the classic newspaper strip 'Krazy Kat' portrays the deceptively simple triangle that sustained it for more than 30 years. Sexually… indeterminate Krazy waits lovingly to be beaned by bricks--invariably interpreted as tokens of affection--lobbed by caustic Ignatz Mouse; meanwhile, Offissa Pupp attempts, usually vainly, to thwart Ignatz, in part to uphold the forces of order and in part out of unrequited love for the Kat. Herriman's brilliant graphics and imaginative designs, and the poetry in the characters' fanciful, fractured dialogue, add up to something still unmatched in comics--or any other medium. These Sunday episodes from 1931-32 appear in their original black-and-white (color was added in 1935). Fantagraphics, revered among comics aficionados for its respectful treatment of the medium, has loaded its Krazy volumes with lagniappe. This one includes an informative essay on Herriman's pre-Krazy career and samples the '31-32 daily strips. Three-quarters of a century after their creation, these incomparable comics retain their ineffable appeal, especially in Fantagraphics' beautiful showcase volumes."--Booklist. "Set against a surreal Southwest landscape of cacti, cabbages, and precariously stacked cliffs, there's poetry in Krazy's absurd phrases and magic in the image of a hero(ine?) so unselfconscious that a brick to the head becomes a sublime symbol of love."--Village Voice Literary Supplement. Pristine paperback w/brilliant corners & crisp edges, a square & tight binding w/no creases in spine.

Soft cover. Condition: As New. 3rd Edition. Third edition, December 2004. Bright, clean & tight copy, unread, in AS NEW condition. "This volume reprints what many consider to be Herriman's prime: his Sunday strips from 1925 and 1926, two full years of strips printed full-page in their original black and white, plus material neve…r collected before. [] Fantagraphics is proud to re-present KRAZY KAT to a new generation of readers. Each volume in this series reprints two full years of Sunday strips, or 104 full-page, black-and-white Sunday strips (Herriman did not incorporate color into the strip until 1935). KRAZY KAT is a love story, focusing on the relationship of its three main characters. Krazy Kat adored Ignatz Mouse. Ignatz Mouse hated Krazy Kat, the expression of which was in throwing bricks at Krazy's head. Offisa Pup loved Krazy and sought to protect 'her' (Herriman always maintained that Krazy was genderless), mostly by throwing Ignatz in jail. Each of the characters was ignorant of the other's true motivations. This simple structure allowed Herriman to build entire worlds of meaning into the actions, building thematic depth that led critics like Gilbert Seldes and e. e. cummings to recognize Herriman's genius almost immediately. Each of Fantagraphics' KRAZY & IGNATZ volumes is designed by Chris Ware, creator of the wildly successful ACME Novelty Library series. This beautiful volume includes material never collected before. Black-and-white comic strips and illustrations throughout." [publisher copy] "Herriman's KRAZY KAT is finally getting its due thanks to this new and beautiful volume from Fantagraphics. Lovingly designed, this is a great introduction to one of the best works of the 20th century. Let's hope more are on the way soon."--Pennsylvania Patriot-News. "The primal comedy plays out in thousands of ways, drawn in an incomparable design sense against a gorgeous stylized backdrop of the American Southwest and delivered in Herriman's hilarious dialogue--half-invented, half quasi-Joycean wordplay."--Publishers Weekly. Pristine paperback w/brilliant corners & crisp edges, a tight binding w/no creases in spine.

Soft cover. Condition: As New. 1st Edition. First Fantagraphics Books edition: April 2006. Bright, clean & tight copy, in FULL COLOR, unread, in AS NEW condition. "The seventh volume of 'Krazy Kat' reprints further verifies that Herriman's strip constitutes a pinnacle of comics art. As throughout the strip's three-decade run, th…ese installments, offered in full color, focus on the eternal triangle of indeterminately gendered Kat; disdainful Ignatz Mouse, whom Kat adores; and Kat's unrequited worshipper, Offissa Pupp, a dog. The triangle is complemented by a rectangle: the ever-present bricks Ignatz hurls at the noggin of hapless Kat, who perceives them as love offerings. Along with the other inhabitants of Coconino County, the trio speaks a droll patois, Yiddish-influenced in the mouth of Krazy, who, for instance, laments, 'I are illone. Jetz me.' But most crucial to 'Krazy Kat's exalted status are the remarkable, idiosyncratic backdrops that place the breezily sketched characters in a surrealistically ever-shifting desert. This volume also contains several pieces Herriman drew for friends, including a spectacular, oversized Coconino landscape. Like its predecessors, the book was designed by Chris Ware, one of the few present-day comics artists whose work approaches the brilliance of Herriman's."--Booklist. "A joyous, life-enhancing reading experience--this beautifully produced book is a must for any reader interested in great art."-- Publishers Weekly. Pristine paperback w/brilliant corners & crisp edges, a square & tight binding w/no creases in spine.
