Poems by the Chilean poet Gabriela Mistral (1889-1957), the first Latin American to win the Nobel Prize in Literature, in 1945. Mistral's companion, Doris Dana, has translated the poems, which are published here in both Spanish and English. The Uruguayan artist Antonio Frasconi has contributed numerous woodcuts, and Dr. Margaret Bates has written an insightful introduction. This is a second printing of the paperback edition. The first edition appeared in 1971 in both paperback and hardcover editions.
