His numberous books and articles had a great influence on Netherlandish, German, French, Dutch and Italian art. Research on Rembrandt occupied much of his life. Many of his articles were published in scholarly journals and are now difficult to find. These articles have been collected and translated into English for this edition. This book was formerly in a reference library, with stamps and labels to the front endpapers, and there is some minor spotting to the edges of the text block; overall, the book is in good to very good condition. The dustwrapper is in good condition (some chafing of the edges, light sunning of the spine panel). The dustwrapper has now been put in a mylar cover to protect it. ISBN 0714815071.
