Age toning, edges lightly soiled. Profusely illustrated. *** "Presents a collection of the works of English fashion, portrait and war photographer, diarist, painter, interior designer and an Academy Award winning stage and costume designer for films and the theatre, Cecil Beaton (1904-1980). Beaton is best known for his fashion photographs and society portraits. He worked as a staff photographer for Vanity Fair and Vogue, during the 1930's and 40's, in addition to photographing celebrities in Hollywood. Queen Elizabeth and the Queen Mother was his favorite Royal subjects, in addition to taking the famous wedding pictures of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor. Included are articles on various aspects of Beaton's art. The essay writers discuss Beaton's love of theatricality and artifice and its evidence in his style: subjects posed in period costume, shot against or reflected in mirrors, the photographer's own reflection visible in a photo, ironic and sometimes severely unflattering angles. Even his wartime photos have the oddly displaced quality of a stage set." - Publisher. *** CONTENTS: Beaton's beauties: self-representation, authority and British culture, by Dr David Mellor; Chronology: snapshots in time: a working life, by Terence Pepper; A fly in amber: Beaton as diarist, by Hugo Vickers; An instinct for style: the fashion photography of Cecil Beaton, by Philippe Garner; Landscape, nation and ideology: the role of the garden in Cecil Beaton's art, by Ian Jeffrey; Eggie's pupil: Beaton as artist, by Michael Parkin; The tyranny of the eye: the theatrical imagination of Cecil Beaton, by Ian Jeffrey and Dr. David Miller; Open secrets: identity, persona, and Cecil Beaton, by Stuart Morgan; [1.] Colour plates; [2.] The catalogue; Bibliography of Cecil Beaton's works; General bibliography; Acknowledgements; Photographic acknowledgements; Index of lenders; General index. Add to basket1987. Lund Humphries. A Softcover in Fair to Very Good minus condition. Beautifully illustrated throughout in colour and black & white. The spine and page block remain firm and tight. The pages are basically clean, and free of underlying and annotations etc. Sunning to spine, although lettering still easily legible. Corner creasing to the covers. Very Good minus condition thus far. However the inside of the covers have some foxing and toning, and some grubbiness. A strip of staining up the long side of the back cover, inside and out. These specific areas we would rate as Fair condition. The interior of the book and the illustrations remain in a nice presentable state.

Hardcover. Condition: Sehr gut. 1. Auflage. Z : 21,5 x 29 cm, Hardcover, 64 pages, 28 color & 2 b/w illustrations - In her paintings and drawings, Dawn Mellor (*1970 in UK) uses black humour to deconstruct the cult of the star (which appears to have been chosen in our society as a substitute for religion) and its believer the fan. The majority of female protagonists in her works are music icons such as Madonna, Courtney Love or Britney Spears, but there are also appearances by film actresses and figures such as Audrey Hepburn, Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz (alias Judy Garland), or "glamourous" politicians such as Hilary Clinton or Condoleezza Rice.

xix + 233pp, bibliography, index, dustjacket, a good copy. Leading development specialists examine the complexities of the issues around the "green revolution" and whether the rural poor have been left behind. They present conclusions with major implications for development policy. Much of the book builds on ideas of the late Indian economist Dharm Narain whose seminal work on the interrelationships between poverty, food prices, and the growth performance of agriculture has in many ways set the agenda for research.
