Original red cloth with gilt lettering front cover and spine, TEG. The book has some dark spotting on spine, big faded area lower front cover likely where label removed, rubbing spine ends, 3cm split/tear spine cloth top rear spine crease, some EP foxing and foxing to first few pages but nearly all pages have no foxing, no previous owner marks or writing on any pages, gatherings a little loose or cracked in several places (usual for this book that had brittle gluing of the internal backstrip) but binding is solid and not in danger of breaking from use. A good working example or good example for rebinding. The book measures 226mm tall x 143mm, and has 335 pages, 30 b/w photo plates including 4 by Vittorio Sella. Descriptions of LNN's many climbs in the Alps from his manuscripts for a book he was preparing to publish before his untimely death. Published posthumously, this book was edited by Ludwig's wife, May, who was with him on the climb where he perished and she gives the full account here of the climb and accident in the opening chapter. LNN was one of the best climbers of his era. He died in a fall witnessed by his wife on the Funffingerspitze. He had climbed extensively in the Alps, frequently on a rope with his wife.
