They are written in Old English, and were written down at some point before the end of the tenth century, making them one of the oldest collections of sermons to survive from medieval England. The homilies in the collection deal primarily with Lent, with items for Passion Sunday, Palm Sunday and Holy Week, as well as homilies dealing with Rogation Days, Ascension Day and Pentecost. The rest of the homilies in the collection are saints? feast days. Wikipedia. CONDITION: Reprint. Rubbed and soiled paper covers, small tear on front cover. Edge wear. Binding is tight, many leaves uncut at top edge. Deckled fore and bottom edges. Black title on cover, barely discernable on spine. xvi, 392 pp. Full refund if not satisfied.

Bound in 3/4 leather and marbled paper, raised bands on gilt decorated spines, top edges gilt, with marbled endpapers. Each volumes contains 40 colour illustrations produced by Benjamin Fawcett and Alexander Francis Lydon, depicting Country Homes of the Nobility, Castles, Lodges, Historic Buildings and more, being complete with 240 illustrations, as called for. Each frontispiece has a protective tissue guard intact, with each volume containing a decorative title page, showing a colour vignette. Volume III - back cover detached, stains to front cover, with an edge damp mark throughout, not affecting the text, nor illustrations. Volume VI shows stains to front cover. Set lacks 3 spine labels, with a few chips to those intact, covers show light edge wear, hinges becoming dry, with binding and hinges tight.
