Small stain at the bottom corner of several pages, a bit of spotting on the front board with a sunned spine, very good, lacking the dust jacket. A novel about two sisters growing up during the Haitian Revolution. The story was inspired by a historical event about two young women of color who crossed racial boundaries and performed at the Theatre Saint-Domingue just before the Revolution. Chauvet was a Haitian novelist and playwright whose work focused on race, gender, class, and the political turmoil of Haiti under U.S. occupation. Uncommon.
